Sheffield Wednesday “Not Matched” On Deal for 24-year-old

Sheffield Wednesday‘s move for 24-year-old Ian Poveda has seemingly hit a snag, with manager Danny Rohl admitting the two parties are “not matched” on a deal.

The German made the admission that the Owls and Poveda’s party had not yet come to agreement over the winger, to The Star, despite social media speculation indicating that a deal was close to being struck.

What Has Danny Rohl Said?

Speaking to Sheffield-based newspaper The Star, Rohl said: “One the one side we have interest from the club and what we want to do, but then there is the player’s side and the agent’s side.

“There must be a match and maybe there are some things that are maybe not a match and so it is different. In my mind Ian Poveda is not under contract, we will look in the end where he is and what we can do, but it must be a decision together.”

Sheffield Wednesday Keen on Poveda Return:

As Alex Miller’s article in The Star stated, Sheffield Wednesday have made no secret of their attempts to bring Poveda back to the club this summer.

The Colombian international is out of contract, after seeing out the final six months of his Leeds United contract in a different part of Yorkshire to Elland Road. The winger, who spent time in the academies of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Barcelona, enjoyed a loan spell at Hillsborough last term.

He made 10 SkyBet Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, after joining part-way through the campaign.

Will Ian Poveda Re-join the Owls? – Opinion:

It is a difficult one to judge. Ian Poveda obviously impressed on-loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season, while the club have made no bones about their interest in sealing a return for the attacker.

Now a free agent, Poveda has his options open. The Owls are clearly looking to persuade him to sign on the dotted line, but I do not think he should be the be all and end all for Rohl and the club’s higher-ups.

Wednesday have had a successful summer window: sealing a slew of additions, confirming the loan return of Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper James Beadle, and tempting stars like Barry Bannan and Josh Windass to pen new deals. They have been smart and thoughtful in their transfer business, and with their eyes also on other targets, if Poveda does not agree a deal then Owls fans should not lose too much sleep.
