One of Sheffield Wednesday’s out-of-contract attackers is attracting interest from abroad with his future at Hillsborough uncertain.
With the end of the season nearing, several players across the country will be beginning to weigh up their future.
One such player is Sheffield Wednesday attacker, Mallik Wilks. The forward is currently on loan at League One side, Rotherham United, and with his contract expiring this summer, Wilks could find himself with a new home come the start of next season.
Overseas clubs interested in Wilks
Football Insider writer, Peter O’Rourke, shared that Konyaspor, Levski Sofia, and Aris Limassol are all interested in Wilks.
With the striker out of contract this summer, a deal to sign him would cost nothing – something that has caught the attention of clubs before in England and abroad.
How has Wilks performed this season for League One Rotherham United?
Wilks has been a key part of the Rotherham United setup this season. Playing predominately from the right of the attack, Wilks has played 37 games, with 35 coming from the start.
His performances in the league have received an average Sofascore of 6.76. With seven goals this campaign, Wilks is the second-highest for the Millers, four points behind Sam Nombe who has 11 goals.
Wilks‘ four assists added to his seven goals puts him at 11 goal contributions for the season.
He leads the Millers for both shots per game and shots on target per game. He’s registered 2.8 and 1.2 respectively.
What’s next for Wilks and Sheffield Wednesday?
It appears Wilks‘ time at Sheffield Wednesday is up and it’s a spell he’ll likely not remember fondly. His loan spell at Rotherham United has been fruitful, allowing him to get crucial first team minutes and prove he’s capable in front of goal.
With the Millers recently changing managers, it’s unclear whether he’ll be offered a contract at the New York Stadium. If he can impress Matt Hamshaw, he could find himself a permanent home at Rotherham.
If not, it appears the forward won’t have a lack of interest. A move abroad could be of interest to Wilks. The chance to experience a new culture and style of football is often attractive to most players.
At 26, Wilks still has plenty of time left in his career but he’ll likely be considering his next move wisely, to make sure it works out better than his move to Sheffield Wednesday.
