Sheffield Wednesday Signing Close Despite Contract Confusion

Sheffield Wednesday are close to signing a League One midfielder, although the fine details of the deal remain a mystery.

The Owls are looking to add reinforcements to help see them through to the end of the season.

They are already relegated and have had to sell several players this month to ease financial concerns.

Replacing those players hasn’t been easy for Henrik Pedersen. The club aren’t allowed to spend money on transfer fees and are restricted on the amount they can offer for wages. Each signing also has to be approved by the EFL on a case-by-case basis.

They have been given permission to sign loan players, where the parent club covers the costs, and the odd free transfer.

One signing that is nearing completion is Marvelous Nakamba from Luton Town.

Marvelous Nakamba Nearing Move to Sheffield Wednesday

Nakamba hasn’t featured much for Luton Town this season, but it appears he’ll be getting a move to the Championship with Wednesday.

Joe Crann shared on his X that the Owls are confident of getting the deal done for the midfielder.

He went on to say that there’s currently no news regarding his contract at Luton Town.

It had been reported by Crann that the deal could be a permanent move, with the Hatters terminating his contract. However, as alluded to by Crann in his post, that aspect of the deal is still unclear.

What Will Nakamba Add to Sheffield Wednesday?

First and foremost, he will add experience to the Wednesday side, something they are lacking this season.

He played 21 Championship games last season and will be able to cover the defensive line. It should free up Jaden Heskey and Svante Ingelsson to be more creative and make progressive runs further forward.

Last season for the Hatters, he recorded 0.6 interceptions per game, 1.9 tackles per game, and recovered four balls per game.

The Zimbabwe international has only featured once in the league for Luton this season, but did play three games at AFCON for his nation.

The 32-year-old received an average rating of 6.63 from Sofascore, which included a 7.2 against Mo Salah’s Egypt.

His experience will likely be welcomed by Pedersen, as he tries to make his side more competitive.
