Shock Barnsley Transfer Decision Revealed

Barnsley have made the shock decision to accept offers for star forward Davis Keillor-Dunn this January, according to a new report.

The Tykes have been spearheaded by the former Mansfield Town forward this season, with 11 goals so far in League One alone, putting him one behind Plymouth Argyle‘s Lorent Tolaj in the golden boot race.

Bombshell Decision Revealed

According to a new report from Football League World, Barnsley are willing to sell the 28-year-old this January amid interest from clubs in the Championship and would accept a multi-million-pound offer should it come in.

Since arriving at Oakwell at the start of last season, Keillor-Dunn has more than delivered on the reported £700,000 fee they paid to Mansfield, scoring 33 goals and providing eight assists in 74 appearances.

A move up to the Championship would see him enter the second tier for the first time in his career, having also previously played in the Scottish Premiership at Ross County back in 2018.

Interest came in the summer from Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough, according to the Barnsley Chronicle, but both sides moved on to other targets before the close of the window in September.

That same report back in July suggested that Conor Hourihane’s side hoped to collect a fee similar to the club’s record sales for Alfie Mawson and Marc Roberts, both of which reached the region of £5 million.

Barnsley Stance Scuppers Hopes

This new revelation that Barnsley are considering selling Davis Keillor-Dunn is likely to be a major hammer blow in Barnsley’s hopes of promotion this season.

A standout throughout his time at Oakwell, losing their best striker will harm their chances of climbing the table at a time when they have plenty of games in hand on the teams above them.

Replacing Keillor-Dunn’s goals will be hard to come by in the January market, with clubs unlikely to give up their proven scorers in the January window, meaning Conor Hourihane may become more dependent on players like David McGoldrick for the rest of the campaign.

The financial aspect of a potential deal is hard to ignore, with the 28-year-old having one and a half years left on his contract, meaning this could be the apex of his value and perhaps the best time for the Tykes to move on.

Whatever decision Barnsley come to will be fascinating to see, but for their short-term aim of gaining promotion into the Championship, cashing in now would certainly put a massive dent in those aspirations.
