Shrewsbury Town have announced the signing of former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Harrison Biggins, as reported via the club’s official X feed.
The 28-year-old midfielder joins the club after rejecting a new deal from Doncaster Rovers joining the League One club on a two-year deal.
Who is Harrison Biggins?
The box-to-box midfielder was part of the Stocksbridge Academy, before moving to Fleetwood Town in the 2017/18 season. He would play a bit part in his first three seasons with the club struggling to cement a regular place in the starting eleven.
The midfielder would head out on loan for the first half of the 2020/21 season to League Two side Barrow where he made 22 appearances before returning to The Cod Army for the second half of the season.
21/22 would be a much more successful season for him in terms of playing time as he would have his joint-best goal-scoring season with five where he would play 32 games.
Upon the expiry of his contract, the midfielder moved to Doncaster Rovers for the League Two season. His two years with the club were good on a personal level scoring 13 goals in all competitions playing 85 games and scoring in their League Two play-off match against Crewe Alexandra before being injured and missing the second leg.
How Does He Fit in at Shrewsbury?
The midfielder could potentially be a very shrewd acquisition for Shrewsbury, with the major overhaul that their squad is currently going through.
Shrewsbury struggled for goals last season, being the lowest goal scorer in the league with just 35 goals in total. Biggins will offer energy in the middle of the park and may well be the perfect replacement for outgoing midfielder Tom Bayliss.
Harrison, ranked in the top 20% in terms of successful passes per 90 in League One as well as being in the top 28% for possession won in the final third for his position
He also offers some extra depth in the middle of the park, in a system where Shrewsbury operate with three central midfielders.
