Shrewsbury Town’s task of replacing Paul Hurst has taken a significant step forward after the League One side narrowly down their shortlist to three potential options, with a decision expected imminently.

The League One side are currently rooted to the bottom of the table after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Burton Albion, leaving them with just two victories from their 15 outings thus far.

Hurst was dismissed as manager of the League One side on November 3rd after their shock FA Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Salford City and have remained at the hands of Sean Parrish but remain with a five-match losing streak.

However, a development on Sunday has confirmed that the club have narrowed their search down to one of three potential candidates.

Who is on Shrewsbury’s shortlist?

As reported by journalist Alan Nixon, Shrewsbury Town are closing in on the appointment of their next manager after closing their shortlist down to three targets.

Former Lincoln City manager Mark Kennedy is on the list, just weeks after he was dismissed as manager of League Two side Swindon Town after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Experienced League One manager Dino Maamria is also on the shortlist for the club, with him previously managing the likes of Stevenage and Burton Albion.

Completing the three-man shortlist is former Port Vale manager Andy Crosby who’s been out of work since February 2024.

The three candidates suggest that Shrewsbury Town are focussing on experience to help them get out of the relegation zone of League One, rather than targeting a younger manager.

Wild came and went

Former Barrow manager Pete Wild applied for the Shrewsbury Town managerial position earlier last week but was rebuffed in his efforts despite being eager to speak with the League One side.

BBC Sport also revealed that Andy Mangan was also a potential candidate to replace Paul Hurst but there has been no further comment regarding him since.

Shrewsbury are back in action in mid-week as they travel to League Two high-flyers Walsall in the EFL Trophy before having a week off due to their clash with Reading being postponed.
