Solihull Moors midfielder Callum Maycock is set to sign for League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a free transfer, as confirmed by journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 26-year-old has turned down a new contract with the National League side and has moved up to League Two to link up with former teammate Josh Kelly with AFC Wimbledon ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
How did Maycock fair last season?
Forming a midfield partnership with Jamey Osborne, Maycock made 46 league appearances for Andy Whing’s side last season, scoring eight goals and providing three additional assists in the National League.
Maycock was one of the club’s longest-serving players upon his arrival from Championship side Coventry City but will now make the move back into the EFL after helping his side to reach the play-off final and FA Trophy final last season.
AFC Wimbledon have beaten fellow League Two sides Chesterfield and Bromley to his services on a free transfer, with the club likely to pursue a play-off push next season.
Is this a blow for Solihull Moors?
Maycock hit double figures for goal contributions last season and also managed to make his England ‘C’ debut, captaining the Three Lions during a friendly against Wales C.
However, Solihull Moors have recently confirmed that captain Jamey Osborne has signed a new long-term contract whilst the club have also secured the services of Newport County midfielder Sam Bowen, who is likely to act as Maycock’s direct replacement next season.
What will Maycock bring to AFC Wimbledon?
The 26-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2023/24 campaign in the National League as well as making his England debut, which will give him an increased sense of confidence to bring to the League Two side next season.
Maycock is a box-to-box midfielder who likes to control play and isn’t afraid to get stuck in when needed. He will further bolster AFC Wimbledon’s existing midfield options next season.
