Solihull Moors have completed the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Oliver Tipton on a permanent contract ahead of the 2024/25 National League season.

Tipton becomes Solihull Moors’ fourth signing of the summer transfer window so far, following the arrivals of Sam Bowen, Laurie Walker and Finley Holmes.

The 20-year-old spent time with League Two side Notts County last season on loan but has now put pen to paper on a permanent contract with the National League outfit.

Speaking to the club’s website, Tipton expressed his delight on signing for the Moors by stating…

“I’m absolutely buzzing! I couldn’t wait to get here and I’m happy to be here and already looking forward to the season.

“I’ve met Stephen (Ward), we had a lot of conversations, it’s gone well, we’re talking about how we want to play this year and what we want to achieve, the style of football and it suits me.”

How did Tipton fare last season?

Tipton signed for League Two new boys Notts County last summer on loan from Wolves and featured seven times for the Magpies before being recalled in January.

He ended the campaign making six further appearances for Wolves’ U21s and captained the side during a 4-3 victory against Norwich City.

The centre-back featured as both a defender and defensive midfielder for Notts County last season, adding further versatility for the National League side.

What effect will this signing have on Solihull Moors?

Due to his welcomed versatility, Tipton could fill several different roles for the National League side next season.

With the Moors having the likes of Alex Whitmore, Kyle Morrison and Kade Craig, the arrival of Tipton could signify a back five for Andy Whing’s side next season, rather than sticking with a back four.

Similarly, with Callum Maycock’s departure confirmed, Tipton could also provide competition for the likes of Jamey Osborne, Sam Bowen and Joss Labadie in defensive midfield next season.

Due to his lack of first-team experience, Tipton could find himself as a squad option at the start. This could allow him to grow into his new side and become a regular starter towards the end of the 2024/25 National League season.
