Southend United are set to miss out on the signing of Aveley forward David Kawa, as National League rivals FC Halifax Town hijack the move.
The 21-year-old had a standout campaign for the National League South side last season, contributing double figures for goals as well as adding several assists to his team in thee process.
He caught the attention of several clubs in the National League, but it’s the Shaymen that have swooped in to beat Southend amongst several others.
Kawa is set to become the clubs second signing of the summer.
Southend miss out on Kawa deal
As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Aveley forward David Kawa is closing in on a permanent move to FC Halifax Town, ahead of the 2025/26 National League season.
Kawa had caught the attention of several sides including Southend United, Boston United and Braintree Town.
However, it is Halifax that have done enough to secure the signing of the 21-year-old on a permanent contract.
How did he fare last season?
After joining the newly promoted side, Kawa immediately hit the ground running with two goals in his first five appearances for the club.
In November, Kawa picked up a further five goal contributions in four appearances.
By the time the season came to a conclusion, Kawa had scored ten league goals for Aveley whilst picking up three additional assists.
The Shrimpers miss out on another deal
Unfortunately for Southend United fans, this isn’t the first deal for a National League South player that the club have missed out on this summer.
The club also missed out on the signing of Worthing’s Danny Cashman, who opted to move to League Two side Crawley Town instead.
Southend have had a quiet start to the summer following their play-off final defeat, but have added two players to their ranks already – though Kawa won’t be one of them.
Halifax meanwhile will be signing one of the sixth-tier’s most underrated forwards from the previous campaign and they’ll be hoping he can replicate his form in the National League next season.
