Southend United are set to complete the signing of defender Adam Crowther from National League North side King’s Lynn Town, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 22-year-old has been a rock at the back for the football club since his arrival in 2022 but is now expected to depart in favour of full-time football with Kevin Maher’s Southend United.
The defender has made 19 league appearances so far this season, contributing to one goal and keeping two clean sheets in his last four matches for the National League North side.
Crowther began his career with Royston Town before moving to Cheshunt on a free transfer in 2020. He made a handful of appearances for the club before making the switch to King’s Lynn Town.
Southend United have previously completed the return of academy graduate Henry Sandat from Championship side Hull City on a one-month loan deal as well as the permanent signing of Weston Super-Mare midfielder James Morton for an undisclosed fee.
This has come following the news of the club’s successful takeover news and the recent lifting of the transfer embargo that has been ongoing for well over a year.
Kevin Maher’s side are currently sat 17th in the National League standings after 25 league games. The club have won 11 of their 25 games so far this season but due to their points deduction, they have fallen down the table. Southend United have lost three of their last four league games and are just four points above the relegation zone.
Pete O’Rourke confirmed the news via social media in a tweet which stated…
‘Bit of National League news – Southend are set to sign defender Adam Crowther from King’s Lynn.’
Writer’s View
Crowther is an excellent defender at sixth-tier level and is definitely deserving of a place in the National League for the remainder of the season.
The defender will be joining a sleeping giant in the form of Southend United and will add further cover as well as an improvement of quality at the back for Kevin Maher’s side.
