Stevenage have had a comfortable two campaigns in the third tier after achieving promotion in 2023, but their early summer transfer business appears to indicate an increased ambition to improve on their mid-table finishes.

Alex Revell has wasted no time improving his squad after their season fizzled out with just two wins from their final 12 League One matches.

The Boro finished in 14th place, down from ninth in the 2023/24 campaign.

Plymouth Argyle Duo Set For The Lamex Stadium

Relegation to League One has seen Plymouth Argyle make changes to their squad amid their ongoing search for a new manager, with Saxon Early and Jordan Houghton both moving to Stevenage.

Houghton is an experienced holding midfielder who has made over 180 appearances for Argyle and should become a regular for the Boro.

Early is a promising left-back who requires regular football to fulfil his potential. He has made 27 appearances for Stevenage previously during a six-month loan spell from Norwich City in 2022/23.

The move adds competition for Dan Butler at left-back, and should the new signing settle in quickly, he may well become first-choice at the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Both of these new additions are likely to play a prominent role in the starting line-up, with another ambitious move now set to be confirmed to improve the first eleven.

Stevenage Agree Deal For Wolves Winger

Chem Campbell spent last season on loan at Reading from Premier League side Wolves, making 42 appearances in all competitions and scoring five goals.

It had been reported that the Royals were battling Boro for his signature this summer.

His total of 12 goal involvements in that time includes a match-winning brace in the second round of the FA Cup to set up a tie with Premier League new boys Burnley.

No player made more successful dribbles per game at Stevenage than the 22-year-old, and there is an exciting prospect in there, evidenced by him making five Premier League appearances for Wolves in the 2022/23 season.

Campbell will now continue his progression at the Lamex Stadium with Football Insider reporting that a deal has been agreed for the winger to join the League One outfit.

The report states that the agreement will include a sell-on clause, and that appears to be a shrewd move, considering the promise the player has shown so far.

It is shaping up to be an impressive summer transfer window for Boro, with the play-offs appearing a realistic goal should they continue in this vein.
