Stevenage are edging closer to securing a long term target, after finally making a breakthrough on deadline day amongst interest from several other League One and Two sides.
Alex Revell’s side have experienced a mixed start to their League One campaign since the departure of Steve Evans but have had a good start to their EFL Trophy campaign as well as narrowly losing to Norwich City in the EFL Cup.
On deadline day, Stevenage have allowed Ben Thompson to join League Two side Bromley whilst the club won the race to land Norwich City youngster Ken Aboh.
However, despite landing a striker already today, it appears as though Stevenage aren’t quite done with their business just yet.
Young closing in on Stevenage switch
As reported by journalist Neil Metcalfe, Stevenage are edging closer to the signing of Bradford City striker Jake Young on a permanent deal.
The forward has been the subject of interest from several EFL sides this month, including Fleetwood Town who had a bid accepted by the Bantams only for the player to opt for a move elsewhere.
The League One side will have until 11 pm this evening to complete the paperwork for the deal, though it doesn’t have to be announced before that time.
How did Young fare last season?
The forward began the 2023/24 campaign with League Two side Swindon Town on a loan deal after falling out of favour at Valley Parade behind veteran Andy Cook.
With Swindon Town, Young made 26 appearances in all competitions last season and his eye for goal certainly caught the eye as he managed 16 goals and four additional assists, which worked out at almost a contribution per 90 minutes.
This led to him being recalled by the Bantams only for him to make just five further appearances in the second half of the campaign.
So far this season, Young has made just one first-team appearance which came in the EFL Cup as Bradford slipped on penalties against Grimsby Town.
