Stevenage have rejected a second six-figure bid from Exeter City for striker Aaron Pressley, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider.
The Devon-based side have recently submitted two bids for the Scottish striker despite landing MK Dons’ Mo Eisa. The first bid, made a matter of days ago, stood at £150,000, and could have risen to around £200,000 after add-ons.
However, there has been a more recent bid, submitted yesterday. This came in at around a £200,000 fee, subject to a possible rise due to add-ons.
Pressley is a young, 22-year-old striker who came through the Aston Villa academy. In 2020, he moved to Brentford on a free transfer, where he’d go on to make his professional debut that same year. He went out on loan to then League One side AFC Wimbledon, where he’d score twice and assist once in 21 appearances, whilst the Wombles got relegated that year.
Last season, the 22-year-old went on a season-long loan to then League One Accrington Stanley. Although he enjoyed a much better season, scoring six and assisting one in 22 matches, for the second year in a row, his side got relegated. Last summer, he departed the Bees after three years to join League One side Stevenage, and so far in this season, he’s featured 15 times, scoring twice.
Exeter City currently sit 14th in League One but are just six points ahead of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Pressley has been a substitute option for Steve Evans’ side so far as they compete for a playoff place and potential double promotion.
Writer’s View:
Aaron is a young, promising forward, and one that I think would be a great fit for Exeter. 200-250k doesn’t seem too unreasonable for a player as young and bright as him, as he’s certainly got a great future ahead of him.
He hasn’t been all that lucky with game time art Stevenage this season, not starting many for the high-flying side, although at a side much further down the league, that have had a problem scoring goals, he seems the perfect fit.
The only downside to this move is that Exeter could be in a relegation battle, just six points off of the bottom four, and in both of his last two seasons in League One, Pressley has been relegated both times…
