Stockport County are reportedly in talks to tie down forward Kyle Wootton to a new contract as he enters the final year of his deal with the League One newcomers.
The 27-year-old joined Stockport from Notts County in the Summer of 2022 and has gone on to score 27 goals in 88 appearances helping them achieve promotion to the third tier as League Two Champions.
The experienced forward has previously had spells at Scunthorpe United, Cheltenham Town, North Ferriby United, Stevenage, Lincoln City and FC Halifax Town, scoring an impressive 96 career goals in 340 appearances.
Now according to Pete O’Rourke the forward is in talks to extend his stay at Edgeley Park. Taking to Twitter (X) he writes:
“Stockport striker Kyle Wootton is in talks with the club over a new deal. He is currently in the final year of his contract at Edgeley Park. #StockportCounty“
An impressive start
The League Two Champions have carried their impressive form into the new season, picking up maximum points in their opening two games, scoring five without return. Their 3-0 defeat of Blackpool could arguably have been the final nail in the coffin for Neil Critchley as their League One rivals parted company after the loss. The question remains, however, if they can continue this impressive form into the rest of the season.
One factor in football that often gets overlooked is a winning mentality, something which Dave Challinor’s side boasts in abundance. Momentum can often turn the tide for a squad that isn’t as strong as others. Unfortunately for League One managers, Stockport also boast a strong squad, with players that could arguably slot into even the strongest of third tier sides.
An impressive squad, and momentum make the club a serious proposition for back-to-back promotions, however the real test will come when they come up against some of the league’s stronger sides Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and how they bounce back should they come unstuck.
