Stockport County are adapting to life in League One, following their promotion to the third tier as Champions last season and may be set to land a Championship striker this window according to reports.
The title-winners have been busy this window with a string of impressive signings to bolster their squad for the upcoming campaign. The additions of Lewis Fiorini, Lewis Bate, Callum Connolly, Jack Diamond, Sam Hughes, Corey Addai, Jay Mingi and Jayden Devrier amongst others have put them in a much better position despite the loss of key figures such as Paddy Madden who joined Chesterfield.
Now, according to Alan Nixon, County could be set to add additional firepower to their forward line in the form of Michael Mellon on loan from Burnley.
The 20-year-old will be a familiar name to those who watched League Two and One in the last two seasons, having spent the latter half of the 22/23 season and the first half of the 23/24 campaign with Morecambe.
The centre-forward contributed an impressive 15 goals in 35 appearances, with 13 of those coming in opening months of League Two.
He then departed and moved to Dundee, where unfortunately his spell was cut short due to a serious head injury.
Prior to Burnley, Mellon was part of the Manchester United academy and is the son of Oldham Athletic boss Micky Mellon.
Another solid addition for Stockport County
Stockport are not willing to settle for League One mediocrity, despite picking up the title they have added quality in abundance to their squad and will be hoping to continue their upwards trajectory.
League One looks to be a highly competitive league next year, with the likes of Birmingham City spending seven figure sums and an already strong roster. Outside of the relegated trio, there are 10 or so teams that could easily finish in the play-off spots and the task to join them will be a difficult one for the League Two champions.
However, they have added experience and quality. Mellon has had a difficult time of late due to injury and will be looking to kick on after demonstrating his ability to score with Morecambe in the fourth tier last season.
