Stoke City Confirm Defensive Transfer Decision

Championship side Stoke City have experienced a frustrating start to the 2024/25 campaign, but that hasn’t stopped them from allowing one of their young talents to depart the club.

Stoke currently find themselves 17th in the Championship, having extended their winless run to seven matches following their point against Cardiff City at the weekend.

However, despite their lack of form and the fact they’ve kept just two clean sheets since early October, Stoke has allowed one of their talented youngsters to head out on loan.

Griffin completes temporary Stoke exit

As confirmed via a statement on the club’s website, National League North side Brackley Town have completed the loan signing of Stoke City defender Jake Griffin until mid-January.

The 18-year-old has been ever-present for Stoke City in their youth sides so far this season and has now earned his reward with his first taste of men’s senior football.

Griffin is reportedly highly rated at the Championship outfit by U21s manager Ryan Shawcross and has earned his reward with a loan exit.

How has he fared this season?

Since the start of the 2024/25 campaign, Griffin has registered eight appearances for Stoke City in the Premier League 2, playing at the heart of Ryan Shawcross’ defence.

However, this figure does not include his appearances in the Central League competitions nor his outings in the National League Cup so far this season.

Last year, Griffin was also called up to represent the Republic of Ireland’s U19s, further cementing his place as a promising talent with the Championship side.

Stoke City will be hopeful that Griffin’s first senior loan spell away from the club will allow him to continue developing his technical ability as well as working with some key figures such as former Solihull Moors defender Alex Gudger or former Hashtag United midfielder Scott Pollock.
