Striker Set for Blackburn Rovers Loan Move

Blackburn Rovers

Luton Town striker Cauley Woodrow is set to join Championship play off chasers Blackburn Rovers in a last minute deadline day deal. The 30-year-old has been out of favour at Kenilworth Road, making just one start all season for the Hatters.

According to Mike McGrath, Woodrow will head to Ewood Park on loan for the rest of the current campaign.

Rovers Getting a Well Travelled Centre Forward

While he may not be known as the most prolific of front men, Blackburn are certainly getting a player with a wealth of EFL experience. Woodrow first shot in to the limelight in 2011 when he became the first non-league footballer to be capped by England at youth level. This gave him his big break when Premier League side Fulham signed him for a six figure fee.

Since then he has gone on to make over 300 EFL appearances, for Fulham, Luton Town and most notably for Barnsley. With Rovers firmly in the play off hunt, and games to come thick and fast between now and then end of the season, competition for places could prove crucial.

Blackburn Targeting More Goals in the Run In

Blackburn boss John Eustace has clearly identified a need to strengthen up top this January. To this point, Blackburn have scored just 34 goals in their 30 league matches this term, the lowest of any team in the current top half of the Championship. A hectic deadline day also saw them target Emmanuel Dennis from Nottingham Forest, suggesting that Eustace wants greater goal threats heading into the closing months of the campaign.

Rovers fans were arguably spoilt by the goal scoring exploits last season of Sammie Szmodics, and it was always going to be difficult to replace last seasons Championship top scorer. Their leading scorer this season is Andreas Weimann with six, so you can understand Eustace’s desperation to reinforce his front line. Their lofty league position is mostly as a result of their strong defensive record, rather than their goal scoring exploits.

With the likes of Weimann, Yuki Ohashi and Makhtar Gueye chipping in with the odd goal, it’s fair to say Blackburn do lack an out and out goal scorer. The planned arrivals of Dennis and Woodrow could be the answer for shot shy Blackburn as they hone in on a play off spot.
