Sutton United confirmed their ninth signing of the season on Sunday with Jeremy Sivi moving to South London, signing a permanent contract with the Surrey side.

The 21-year-old signs for the U’s having been released from Middlesbrough at the end of the season. He joined the Teeside club in 2021 at the age of 18 having played for the Leyton Orient academy and Harlow Town.

He spent the majority of his time in the Northeast playing for the Middlesbrough U21s and only made one appearance for the first team. The winger then had a season on loan at Harrogate Town in 2023-24. He started 5 games and made 12 appearances from the bench for the Sulphurites without featuring at all in the last month of the season.

Despite not contributing to the side in goals and assists, the winger is still developing within his career and will have learnt a lot during his time in League Two last season. A step down to the National League may just be the divisional change that kick-starts Sivi’s goals and assists contributions.

What will Sivi bring to Sutton?

Despite not providing any goals of assists, the winger had the support and praise from Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver, in the official statement confirming Sivi’s arrival

“Every day in training we can see that he is growing in confidence. He has a trick in him, he is athletic and has a real work ethic.”

Playing in the National League will only provide more development for Sivi and add more quality to his game. Most likely to be Sutton’s replacement for the outgoing Omari Patrick, the 21-year-old is a quick, direct and aggressive individual who likes to play on the front foot and take his opponents on.

There was nothing but high praise and encouragement from his new manager Steve Morison who, on the confirmation of Sivi signing stated

“This lad can easily be the best winger in the league so it’s my job along with the staff to make that a reality. He has power, pace, agility and size, and I’m really excited about getting him into Sutton”.

Jeremy Sivi is likely to benefit from playing in a Sutton United side that will be expecting to compete at the top of the National League. Playing football on the front foot and in an aggressive Sutton side may just bring out the best in Sivi and show why Middlesbrough chose to sign him in 2021.
