Swansea City have completed the permanent signing of former Ipswich Town centre back Cameron Burgess, with the announcement coming as a surprise to both sides of the deal.

After Alan Sheehan took over from Luke Williams at Swansea late in the season, he managed to turn their form around massively, becoming one of the form teams in the league.

They managed an 11th-placed finish in the league and were just five points outside the playoff positions, a huge change after their awful January form, which saw them struggling near the bottom of the table.

They have started the summer very brightly with some solid signings, and they have just added a brilliant defender to their ranks to make their side even stronger.

Burgess Joins Swansea

Former Ipswich Town man Cameron Burgess has joined Swansea City on a three-year deal after his contract expired with the Tractor Boys, Swansea have announced.

The news came as a surprise to both sets of fans, as there were no links to Swansea for Burgess, with the only teams being linked to the Aussie being Valencia and Rangers.

Burgess represents a huge coup for Swansea, with many Ipswich fans stunned at his decision to join the Welsh side for the next three seasons.

A Fantastic Addition for the Swans?

Burgess, on paper, is a fantastic addition for the Swans, with him being a very talented centre back who is also left-footed, which is rare at this level.

Many Ipswich fans have hailed Burgess as one of their best defenders in their Premier League campaign last season, despite their relegation from the top flight.

Paired next to Ben Cabango now and joining Ricardo Santos in making the move to SA1, Swansea’s defensive unit looks very solid heading into the 2025/26 season.

Why Swansea for Burgess?

Many fans will question why Burgess decided to make the switch to Swansea, rather than a club like Valencia or even remaining in East Anglia.

Ultimately, with an exciting young core and a new ownership group that is proving to be highly ambitious so far in the transfer window, it is a very good project to join in the prime of his career.

With a phone call from new star owner Luka Modric likely a part of the deal, it will have been a hard deal to refuse for Burgess, who looks to help guide Swansea back to the Premier League.
