Swansea City Boss Eyeing Double Raid Of Former Club Including Former Coventry City Man

Swansea City

Swansea City are reportedly eyeing a double raid of manager Luke Williams’ former club Notts County for forward Macauley Langstaff and former Coventry City winger Jodi Jones, according to the Swansea Independent.

The Championship club have been heavily linked to the two Notts County stars since Williams made the move to the Liberty Stadium, however with the Summer 2024 transfer window now open, it now appears possible they are willing to test the League Two club’s resolve.

According to the report, Langstaff is the ‘top target‘ of the manager, with the addition of Jones too considered to be a ‘perfect start’ for the Swans. Leeds United have also paid a significant sum to the club which has been taken into account with the summer transfer budget which could bode well as the club attempt to secure their targets.

Langstaff Set To Move?

Amongst the ongoing noise about his future, Langstaff was handed the captain’s armband at the end of the season, a gesture which he accepted.

On the change in leadership Head Coach Stuart Maynard told the club’s official media:

“Firstly, on behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank Kyle Cameron for his service as captain over the last three years. He led the team back into the EFL and his contribution throughout his time in the role isn’t lost on anyone.

“However, we feel this summer presents us with an opportunity to bring constructive change to the leadership structure within the squad as we prepare to embark on what will be another highly competitive League Two promotion challenge.

“For us, Macaulay has everything you need in a captain of a club this size. He has won the respect of everyone – players, staff and supporters – with his incredible, consistent performances and the way he conducts himself day in, day out.

“His work ethic is infectious and, as captain, he will play a huge role in creating the working environment we need if we’re to be successful this season.

Whilst the move to appoint the 27-year-old as captain does seem logical, it does indicate the club’s willingness to keep hold of the EFL’s top scorer next season. However, despite the public gesture, it hasn’t silenced the links to his former boss.

Jodi Jones Too?

Jodi Jones is a player that should not be playing in League Two and had it not been for his ACL injuries, he likely wouldn’t be. However, he has returned to form following his recovery with Notts County and demonstrated to the third tier why he was so highly regarded at his former clubs. His performances and 23 league assists, secured him a spot in the League Two Team of the Season, as well as being named the Player of the Season for both his club and the league.

Losing one of these stars would be difficult for Notts County to replace, but losing both would be devastating for the fans and for the club as they look to mount a more serious promotion challenge next season.
