Swansea City remain hopeful of securing a deal to sign Lincoln City midfielder Ethan Erhahon during the summer transfer window.
The Swans are in the market for a permanent replacement for former captain Matt Grimes, who was sold to fellow Championship side Coventry City towards the end of the January transfer window.
Erhahon has been a key presence for Michael Skubala’s side since his arrival, but now faces an uncertain and exciting future due to the possibility of him playing second tier football next season.
Swansea aim to close Erhahon deal
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Swansea City remain hopeful of securing a seven-fighre deal to sign the Lincoln City midfielder before rival clubs swoop in.
The midfielder is expected to be the subject of a £1 million plus add-ons offer from Swansea, which is already a significant increase from the offer they made last month which was rejected immediately.
There is still no comment as to the exact fee that Lincoln want for Erhahon, but it is likely that the proposed offer from the Swans isn’t overly far away from the valuation.
How did he fare last season?
The 24-year-old has had two strong campaigns with Lincoln City, following his arrival from SPFL side St. Mirren in the summer of 2023.
Despite making less appearances in the 2024/25 season, Erhahon still remained a crucial part of the Imps’ side.
His only goal contribution came during a 4-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers in April, but he isn’t necessarily that type of midfield player.
Erhahon also averaged a passing success rate of 83%, whilst also making 1.8 interceptions, 1.6 tackles and 5.8 ball recoveries per 90 minutes in League One last season.
Similarly, he was only dribbled past 0.5 times per game, further suggesting that his presence in midfield makes it difficult for the opposition.
Would he be a good fit for Swansea?
Judging by the statistics, Erhahon is a very similar style of midfielder to Matt Grimes.
Both players rarely contribute in the final third because their main traits are dictating possession, spreading the play and acting as a rock in midfield when being pressed by the opposition.
With Lewis O’Brien having returned to Nottingham Forest, a gap has more than opened in midfielder for Swansea in terms of recruiting a new player this summer.
Admittedly, the Championship is a significant step up from League One level, but Erhahon has consistently ranked as one of the divisions best players for that particular area.
