Swansea City manager Luke Williams has teased a major transfer reunion with one of his side’s former loan stars, as the end of the transfer window continues to creep ever closer.
The Swans kicked off the 2024/25 Championship season against Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough but slipped to a 1-0 defeat.
This was followed up with a 3-1 victory against League Two side Gillingham in the EFL Cup, but could one of their former loan stars make a return to South Wales?
Rushworth back to Swansea?
Swansea manager Luke Williams is interested in bringing Carl Rushworth back to the Swansea.com Stadium, according to an interview with BBC Sport Wales.
The Championship side kicked off their 2024/24 campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough but remain without goalkeeper Andy Fisher following an injury in pre-season.
Speaking with BBC Sport Wales, Williams stated…
“I’d never say never. Is there a better goalkeeping department than Vigoroux and Rushworth in the same squad?”
How did he fare last season?
Rushworth was ever present in the Swansea team last term playing every single game for the side, helping the Swans solidify their position in mid-table.
He conceded 63 goals from the 207 shots taken at him, whilst gaining ten clean sheets in the process for the Championship side.
Would this be a good move for all parties?
Swansea City have started the season with new signing Lawrence Vigouroux between the sticks.
The Chilean joined from recently relegated Burnley on a season-long loan and featured throughout pre-season and in their two matches so far this campaign.
However, Rushworth more than impressed with Swansea City last season and is likely to want guaranteed first-team minutes once again if he was to make the temporary switch back to the Welsh outfit.
That could create a problem for the Championship side, having to give minutes to two different loanees.
