Swansea City are worried that wage demands may prove to be a stumbling block as they look to sign Jamal Lowe on a permanent deal this summer, according to the Bournemouth Echo.

The Jamaican international is currently in his second stint at the Liberty Stadium having joined on loan from Premier League outfit Bournemouth at the start of the season.

However, it looks as though a potential permanent deal in the summer could prove to be tricky for the Swans given Lowe’s high wages at Bournemouth.

How has Lowe faired at Swansea City?

Since returning on loan in the summer transfer window, partnering fellow newbie Jerry Yates, Lowe has made 32 Championship appearances for the Swans as well as making six international appearances for the Jamaican National team in his career thus far.

During this time, Lowe has scored eight goals for the Swans but is set to return to Bournemouth in the summer where his contract is due to expire.

Luke Williams addresses potential transfer

With Swansea having secured their Championship status for next season, their attention will soon turn to finding potential signings for next season.

However, speaking about Swansea’s chance of retaining Lowe, manager Luke Williams admitted it would be difficult for the club to make the deal happen.

He said: “I think it’s going to be difficult because Jamal is on a Premier League salary. That could be a real issue.

“Jamal’s contract in his first spell here was probably when the club were still working almost on a Premier League budget. Then he went on (to Cherries) still on a Premier League level.

“But this club is no longer operating at that level. I think we have to be clear about what it’s going to look like if we are going to do anything at all.”

Lowe surplus to requirements at Bournemouth?

Having joined the Cherries from Swansea in 2021 for around £1.5m the forward helped Bournemouth gain promotion back to the Premier League, scoring seven goals in 34 league appearances.

Despite playing a key role in the club’s promotion, Lowe made just two appearances in the first half of the ensuing Premier League season, and was subsequently sent to Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers on a six-month loan deal.

Bournemouth decided once again to loan the Jamaican out at the start of this season, and with his contract set to expire in the summer, it looks highly unlikely that he will be playing his football at the Vitality Stadium next season.
