Swansea City Set To Miss Out On Free Agent As Striker Undergoes Sheffield United Medical

Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell, was yet to find a new club after the expiry of his current deal with the Potters, but it appears as though that is about to change.

Swansea were interested but look set to lose out after news of the forward having a medical elsewhere ahead of the season opener this weekend.

Campbell left Stoke City after eight years at the club this summer

It was announced in May that one of Stoke’s star players in recent years, Tyrese Campbell, would depart the club this summer after the player and club agreed to go their separate ways.

Campbell, who netted 36 goals in 164 games for Stoke, joined the club at sixteen from Manchester City’s academy.

The 24-year-old bid farewell to the Bet365 Arena this summer stating:

“I leave a man with memories that will stay with me for life. I have met teammates that will be friends and brothers for life.

“Thank you to the fans who have supported me through the good times and the bad, it has meant the world to me.”

The Potters’ former player and sporting director, Jonathan Walters, mirrored Campbell’s amicable exit by concluding:

“In Tyrese’s case, to have played over 150 matches for one team is a rare feat in the modern era. It represents a significant contribution to the history of our club and we thank him for his efforts in a Stoke City shirt”.

Swansea were in the chase for Campbell’s signature

Tyrese Campbell was yet to find a new club despite exiting from Stoke City months ago.

However, the race for the forward had ramped up in recent weeks with the new Championship season looming.

Swansea City were one of the sides sniffing around the Englishman with manager, Luke Williamson reportedly talking to Campbell himself to convince him of a move to Wales, despite there likely being more financially attractive offers elsewhere, according to BBC Sport.

Alan Nixon (paywall) revealed on the 8th of August that Swansea did look to be behind in the race to sign Campbell with recently relegated, Sheffield United, hoping their more lucrative offer would sway Campbell towards joining them.

Campbell is now undergoing a medical with The Blades

Following Alan Nixon’s earlier report, Football Insider has revealed that Campbell is now undergoing a medical with Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.

A medical is one of the finer details of the deal that looks set to be completed with Campbell now expected to be a Blades player shortly.

Chris Wilder’s side were searching for a new striker after the departure of William Osula to Newcastle in a deal worth up to £15 million.

The hope will now be that Campbell can find his form and combine will fellow free transfer signing, Callum O’Hare, to fire United straight back to the top flight.
