Swansea City have reportedly signed Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright on loan for the rest of the season, with the club seemingly finding their replacement for outgoing captain and midfield star Matt Grimes.
After a torrid run of form to begin 2025 and the club being winless since December 29th, Swansea manager Luke Williams has spoken about his sides’ need for a spark to ensure they do not fall into trouble in the coming weeks.
They face a tough run of fixtures against teams around them, with the Swans getting dangerously close to falling into a relegation battle.
There could be light at the end of a very tough run however, as the signing of a talented Premier League star could help drag them back up the table.
Wright to Swansea?
According to Stuart James, Swansea City are closing in on securing a deal for Manchester City starlet Jacob Wright on loan for the rest of the season.
The deal will include a buy option for the Swans, which depends on whether the club retain their Championship status.
Wright may be the spark that Luke Williams is looking for, with the 19-year-old seemingly being the direct replacement for Matt Grimes in their midfield setup.
The ‘Wright’ Decision?
On paper, this deal for Wright looks like the perfect replacement for the outgoing Matt Grimes, with Wright possessing the perfect traits to step into that defensive midfield role.
Although Wright does not have much experience in the professional game, he comes highly rated, with the midfielder appearing in two of Pep Guardiola’s last three matchday squads for the Cityzens.
If the move does pan out as many expect, it could be a fantastic signing for the Swans, with their purchase fee being rumoured around just the two million mark for the Englishman.
Is a Loan Good Enough?
Although many members of the Jack Army would rather have permanent signings going forward, this Wright deal is the perfect example of a risk-free loan move.
If they are either relegated or do not believe Wright is good enough, his time in SA1 will expire at the end of the season.
However, if he does live up to expectations, he could become a staple of the Swansea side for many years to come.
