Swansea City Showing Interest In Japanese Forward

Swansea City are exploring a move for Kyogo Furuhashi from fellow Championship club Birmingham City, according to reports from Pete O’Rourke.

After a lot of excitement in the summer surrounding Kyogo’s move from Ligue 1 Rennes to the Midlands for a fee in the region of £10 million, the forward has failed to meet expectations this season.

In the 2025/26 Championship campaign for Birmingham, he has scored just one goal in 25 league appearances, coming against the troubled Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week.

The Blues find themselves 13th after 28 games played, a disappointment considering the money spent, but there are plenty of games left to be played as they eye a top-six finish.

Signings Hint At Decision

Birmingham is understood to be willing to listen to offers for Kyogo at this stage. The Blues have already brought in August Priske earlier this month in a move that will bolster their front line, which already consists of Jay Stansfield and Marvin Ducksch.

Meanwhile, reports suggest a return to Celtic could be on the cards, though nothing is concrete at this stage. Kyogo made Celtic Park his home between July 2021 and January 2025, scoring 86 goals in 167 appearances in all competitions.

Why Swansea City Can Be The Ideal Fit For Kyogo

While his start to life in England has been less than ideal, there are positive signs that he can succeed at this level. For instance, he hit the post on his debut and continues to be trusted by manager Chris Davies. Understandably, a lack of goals could affect his confidence, so a change of scenery may be welcome.

Kyogo has made a name for himself with his ever-willing work rate and movement. He always showed a desire to make those runs in behind for the betterment of his team. This quality made him a fan favourite at Celtic. It could also make him a fan favourite for The Swans.

Swansea lacks a striker who can run in behind as Kyogo does. Slovenian forward Zan Vipotnik has been in inspired form, scoring 13 goals in 26 appearances. With Adam Idah sidelined with a hamstring injury until at least February, a move for Kyogo can offer Vipotnik some much-needed support as Swansea looks towards a playoff push. They currently sit in 16th.

If Swansea can find a way to make the deal work, either permanently or on loan for the season, there is significant upside for the South Wales outfit to push on in the second half of the season, as they look to find their way back to the Premier League.
