Despite securing the loan signing of Lewis O’Brien tonight, Swansea’s transfer window is set to end with a disappointing collapse, as deals for both Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright and RB Salzburg midfielder Bobby Clark have collapsed at the 11th hour.
Swansea City fans have been crying out to their club to bring in reinforcements after what can only be described as a frustrating January period.
With zero wins in 2025 and their captain Matt Grimes departing for Coventry City, there were huge gaps to fill in a squad that is in dire need of a spark of life.
However, it looks to be a long end of the season for Swansea fans, after two key deals have seemingly collapsed on Deadline Day.
Wright and Clark Moves to Swansea Collapse
According to Tom Coleman, Swansea City’s loan deals for Manchester City and RB Salzburg midfielders Jacob Wright and Bobby Clark collapsed on Deadline Day, likely ending Swansea’s transfer business this season.
Wright was reportedly at the Swansea training ground yesterday as he was looking to seal a loan move to Wales with an option to buy if the Swans remained in the Championship.
However, the midfielder seemingly did a U-turn and is now expected to join Norwich City.
Bobby Clark was also close to making the move to the club, but due to him being overseas, they could not finalise a deal in time before the end of the transfer window.
Too Little Too Late?
Swansea have had a reputation for leaving a lot of their business, particularly in January, to the last moments of the transfer window.
Since August 2017, Swansea have completed 33 signings on Deadline Day, an absurd amount of business at such a risky time of the window.
Although the quality of players they targeted was high, the fact they left these deals until the last day had a massive influence as to why they were not completed.
Is Relegation a Possibility?
With Luke Williams’ side sitting just seven points above the relegation places as of Deadline Day, there is a huge risk they could quickly be pulled into relegation danger.
They have been very poor throughout 2025 so far, and without an ample replacement for their outgoing star Grimes, it could be a huge issue that they will not be able to rectify.
It will take a huge change of fortunes from Williams and his team before they can start looking up the table again, rather than down.
