At the end of the 2022/23 season, Swindon Town published their official release list, but where are each of the players now almost 12 months on?
After appointing Michael Flynn shortly before their final match against Crawley Town, the club acted swiftly by confirming that seven players had been released by the football club, whilst defender Mathieu Baudry announced his retirement.
George McEachran and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy had their contract options triggered by an additional 12 months, whilst all loanees also returned to their parent clubs.
With that being said, let’s take a look at each of the seven released players and where they are now…
Cian Harries
The defender joined Swindon Town on a free transfer in July 2022, spending a single season with the club which was unfortunately riddled with injuries.
Following his release, Harries signed for National League side Aldershot Town under the management of Tommy Widdrington, who signed him for Bristol Rovers back in January 2020.
So far this season, the Welshman has contributed to nine goals in 32 appearances as well as scoring in the FA Cup as the Non-League side reached the third round and it certainly appears that the defender has found a happy home with the Shots.
Mo Dabre
The winger joined Swindon Town in the summer of 2021 from the Volenti academy but spent the majority of his time out on loan with the likes of Worthing and Banbury United.
After being released, Dabre signed for National League South side Chelmsford City, making eight league appearances before he fell out of favour.
In November, the Italian signed for fellow sixth-tier side Tonbridge Angels on a free transfer and has since scored twice in 17 league appearances with his latest goal arriving at the weekend against Havant & Waterlooville.
Harry Parsons
The 21-year-old was a product of the Swindon Town academy, slipping in and out of the first-team picture as well as experiencing time out on loan.
He was released by the League Two side in the summer and was snapped up by National League side Maidenhead United, but has struggled to find a regular spot in the starting eleven.
This led to a brief loan move to Banbury United in the National League North, although he is currently on loan for the remainder of the season with National League South side Weymouth where he’s contributed to four goals in 14 appearances.
George Cowmeadow
Also being released was academy graduate George Cowmeadow who was a regular for Swindon’s youth teams and had various loan moves during his time with the club.
The forward was let go in the summer after failing to land a new deal and was snapped up by FC Kidlington with whom he’d previously had a loan spell with.
He has made a handful of appearances for the Non-League side as well as dealing with injuries. The forward was recently sent off during a local cup match against Oxford United.
Oscar Massey
Massey was another academy product at Swindon Town and spent a brief stint with Plymouth Parkway in the seventh tier of English football last season before being let go.
He initially signed for Penzance on a free transfer where he impressed, which led to a move to Barnstaple Town and his form continued to excel.
In December, Massey was snapped up by Falmouth Town, scoring a goal on his debut for the club and remains with the Non-League side to this day.
Jonny Williams
The club’s most noticeable departure saw midfielder Jonny Williams leave the League Two side, proving to be a major blow for the club.
The Welshman was involved in a saga that almost saw him join Bradford City before he was snapped up by Gillingham instead and remains with the side to this day.
So far this season, Williams has made 40 appearances in all competitions, contributing to three goals and has struggled to reclaim the form he had with the Reds.
Morgan Roberts
Finally, Morgan Roberts was the last player to depart Swindon Town and like other entries, he has also spent time in the Non-League scene.
Shortly after his release was confirmed, Roberts was snapped up by National League North side Brackley Town, with whom he’d had a previous spell before arriving at the League Two side.
He remains in the sixth-tier to this day, impressing as Brackley Town continue to battle for a play-off place and possible chance to play in the National League. Roberts was also named in the division’s team of the week at the weekend.
