As September rolls on, the hype around the new edition of FC, formerly Fifa, continues to build.
Over the last few days, EA have been releasing the ratings of a number of significant players, which, as usual, has caused much debate amongst football fans.
Amongst these reveals, they have unveiled the highest-rated players in League Two.
Here is a look at the five best players in the fourth tier, according to EAFC.
Michael Rose – 68 Rated
The fifth-highest rated player in League Two is Salford City centre-back Michael Rose.
The Scotsman has enjoyed a distinguished career thus far. He came through the academy at Aberdeen, won promotions with Ayr United and Coventry City, and most recently played for Stoke City.
He has proved himself to be more than capable in the Championship when fit, and Karl Robinson has done well to secure his signature for Salford City.
Rose has no single outstanding attribute, but he has solid ratings in terms of pace, defending and physicality. All three scores range from 68 to 73.
His new EAFC card also recognises his relative technical competency, as he has been given a dribbling score of 60 and a passing rating of 58, much higher than even the other outstanding centre-backs in League Two.
Callum Paterson – 68 Rated
Versatility, which is a quality that Callum Paterson has in abundance, is sometimes a trait which is punished by EAFC, as a player’s attributes do not perfectly suit a single position.
However, this is not the case with Paterson, who compares extremely favourably to his fellow League Two players.
The former Scotland international has a fairly well-rounded card, with five of his six main attributes being between 58 and 66 rated.
The area in which Paterson excels, according to EA, is his physicality, which is rated at a whopping 82. For context, this is just one below Declan Rice’s physicality score.
Like every other player on this list, Paterson has no business playing in League Two, but he is one of a few high-rated players who have been tempted by the ambitious project built by Paul Warne and Milton Keynes Dons.
His first seven games in the fourth tier have seen him produce three goals and three assists. Only two players have more combined goals and assists in that time period.
Marvin Ekpiteta – 68 Rated
Marvin Ekpiteta is the second centre-back and second MK Dons player to appear in this top five so far.
The 30-year-old has taken a slightly different career path to Paterson and Rose, as he spent a considerable amount of time in part-time football and non-league in general.
After a solid spell at Leyton Orient, the defender had a long and successful stint at Blackpool before moving to Hibernian last year and playing a more limited role. But his time in the Scottish top flight would have undoubtedly boosted his standings in the eyes of EA.
His pace is perhaps slightly low, at just 59, but the FC experts have given him a fair 68 rating for defending and 76 rating for physicality.
It should be noted that ‘physicality’ encompasses not only strength and aggression, but also stamina, which is something that centre-backs do not necessarily need in abundance, hence why his physicality score is six lower than Paterson’s.
Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu – 68 Rated
The second-highest-rated player in League Two is someone who has one of the most remarkable journeys in the history of football, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu.
The midfielder joined Luton Town in the National League in November 2013, initially on a short-term loan. Over 10 years later, he has gone on to make over 400 appearances for the Hatters and win promotion from every league in English professional football.
Rather inexplicably, his drop down the divisions has come much quicker than his rise up the pyramid. Just two seasons ago, he was in the Premier League and playing international football. But, he has been tempted by the pull of Neil Harris at a recently relegated Cambridge United.
Mpanzu’s overall rating seems slightly unfair when looking at his individual statistics. The 31-year-old has scores of 77 and 81 for pace and physicality, respectively, indicating that EA believe he is still a Premier League player physically.
Additionally, he has no individual stat below a rating of 63.
EA certainly could have increased his overall rating by one or two.
Kane Wilson – 69 Rated
There is one player who EA believe is just slightly above the rest in League Two, Kane Wilson.
The right-back is arguably the most impressive acquisition made by any team in the fourth tier this summer, and EA’s rating reflects that.
He has spent time with a number of clubs, thriving in the fourth tier with Forest Green Rovers before later moving to Derby County. Wilson was a key part of the Rams’ squad that won promotion from League One, and started regularly in the second tier when fit.
However, he could not resist the opportunity of linking back up with Warne.
His best individual stat is his pace, which is scored at a whopping 85. This makes him faster than the likes of Bukayo Saka and Alexander Isak.
EA have also credited his general attacking ability, giving him a dribbling rating of 71.
The 25-year-old will be hoping to better the numbers he produced in League Two with Forest Green as a youngster.
