Three players are currently at risk of a two-game ban this weekend due to the EFL’s 10 yellow card rule.
EFL suspension rules state that any player who accumulates five yellow cards before game-week 19 must serve a one-game ban. 10 yellows before match-week 37 will result in a two-match ban while 15 bookings before a team’s 46th match will mean a three-match suspension.
Four players in the Championship have already been hit by the two-game ban.
Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer, Norwich City’s Callum Doyle and Preston North End duo Alistair McCann and Ben Whiteman have already stacked up 10 yellow cards.
Portsmouth attacker Callum Lang is also on nine yellow cards, but he is currently nursing a hamstring injury that won’t see him return until after the matchday 37 cut-off.
There are a further 19 Championship players on eight yellow cards that, if booked this weekend could be at risk of a future suspension.
Jobe Bellingham – Sunderland
The Sunderland midfielder was shown his ninth yellow card of the season in Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds United on Monday night.
The younger Bellingham brother has impressed for the Black Cats this season with four goals and three assists.
He is also pivotal to the way Regis Le Bris side play. Jobe has missed four games so far for Sunderland this season – three from a red card suspension and one from a slight ankle injury.
Sunderland have failed to win any of the four games that Jobe has missed this season.
If Jobe was to be cautioned against Hull City this weekend, he would miss Sunderland’s games against Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City.
George Edmundson – Middlesbrough
Edmundson picked up his ninth yellow card of the season in Boro’s 3-1 defeat Sheffield United on February 12th.
The Boro central defender has started 23 times for Middlesbrough this season since joining from Ipswich Town in the summer.
Boro have kept nine clean sheets this season with Edmundson starting five of those games.
If booked this weekend against Bristol City, Edmundson would miss Boro’s games against Stoke City and Derby County.
Jayden Bogle – Leeds United
Like Bellingham, Bogle picked up his ninth yellow of the season in Monday night’s fixture.
The Leeds full back was booked for a foul on Bellingham after the 19-year-old knocked the ball past him.
Aside from his yellow card, Bogle did a good job of keeping Sunderland’s January signing Enzo Le Fee quiet.
The former Sheffield United defender is having a strong season for the league leaders with four goals and two assists from right back.
Many Leeds fans believe Bogle has been their standout player this season and he would be a big miss if he was to pick up a two-game suspension.
If Bogle was to pick up a booking against his former club on Monday night, he would miss Leeds upcoming games at home to West Bromwich Albion and away to Portsmouth.
