Premier League Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank is aiming to reunite the attacking talents of Brennan Johnson and Morgan Rogers, years after they nearly won promotion from League One with Lincoln City.

The duo were both on loan at Sincil Bank under then manager Michael Appleton and formed a potent attacking force. The pair were part of the side that upset the odds to reach the League One play-off final at Wembley before ultimately falling to Blackpool at the final hurdle.

Johnson went back into his parent club Nottingham Forest’s squad and helped them reach the Premier League before moving to Spurs. Whereas it has taken a little more time for Rogers to find his feet. Loan moves to Bournemouth and Blackpool failed to gain the desired results which resulted in Manchester City selling him to Middlesbrough in 2023. It did not take long for Aston Villa to come calling who snapped him up in 2024.

Since then he has gone on to play a key role in the Premier League, picking up seven caps for England in the process.

Tottenham Hotspur are now eyeing up the 23-year-old as a potential January addition. With Rogers stock continuing to rise it will likely cost significantly more than the £8m reportedly paid by Villa for the attacker in 2024.

However, with the notoriously frugal Daniel Levy now stepping down from his role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following last season’s disastrous league finish, it could now free up more money to spend.

Spurs are continually one of the most profitable clubs in the Premier League, but that could be able to change with rumours of an Amanda Staveley led takeover and more ambitious plans for the club refusing to die down.

Trophy Secured But Mess Remains for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur secured their long-awaited trophy last season under Ange Postecoglou. But the European cup did little to gloss over what was a disaster season. Whilst there was little to suggest the club could be relegated, thanks in large part to the poor showing of the three promoted sides. It was closer than it ever should have been for a club of this size. Manchester United were ready to rip up their squad and start from scratch but still finished above Spurs. There was little doubt that the task before Thomas Frank is a huge one. It is not surprising therefore to see Ange’s head not the only one to roll.

Despite that Tottenham have started the season in reasonably good form, two wins and a loss from their opening three games. A 2-0 victory over Manchester City was overshadowed by a lacklustre defeat at home to Bournemouth perhaps showing there is still work to be done.
