Premier League Tottenham Hotspur have sparked a late transfer scramble from clubs in the EFL Championship and League One after making a forward available for loan.
Spurs have had a busy window to date, most recently celebrating the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, who had been a target of Chelsea. The good news, however could not prevent a disappointing 0-1 home defeat to the increasingly impressive Bournemouth. The loss came just one week after turning over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in a 2-0 victory.
With just 48 hours of the window to go, there could still be some movement, this time out of the club. Thomas Frank has already said goodbye to legend Son Heung-Min who left to join LAFC, but another forward could be set to depart before the deadline.
Championship and League One Transfer Scramble for Tottenham Hotspur’s Dane Scarlett
Premier League Tottenham Hotspur have prompted what has been described as a “scramble” amongst clubs in League One and the Championship. Young forward Dane Scarlett is now available on a loan deal with clubs such as Port Vale pursuing a deal. Alan Nixon (paywall) has reported that the club is expecting the youngster to leave before Monday.
Nixon is only reporting one club’s interest so far, whilst also indicating that second and third tier clubs are interested.
Scarlett’s Disappointing Season Hasn’t Stopped Interest
Scarlett embarked on his third loan spell of his career last season. Previous seasons at Portsmouth and Ipswich Town had varying success, but his time at Oxford United has been a disappointment. A return of just four goals in 22 games meant that he was not a guaranteed starter. He was in the Championship squad on 26 occasions, started seven and was substituted on in 13. This meant he had to settle for a place on the bench in six games as an unused substitute.
Whilst for many this would be a sign of concern, however it has not deterred potential suitors this season who are queueing up for the clearly talented forward. He just needs to find a way to replicate his Tottenham Hotspur youth form in either League One or the Championship this season.
