Sheffield United are under new ownership and are continuing their march towards a Premier League return this season, but a fresh update has threatened their pursuit of one of their January targets.

The Blades are currently third in the Championship following their victory over Watford on Saturday and find themselves just a point behind league leaders Leeds United.

Chris Wilder’s side have been linked with moves for Ollie McBurnie and Ben Brereton-Diaz so far this month, but the club could be set to miss out on another option.

According to Football League World, Sheffield United face the possibility of missing out on the signing of Peterborough United striker Ricky Jade-Jones, due to an enquiry being made by their Championship counterparts Cardiff City.

Do Sheffield United need him?

Sheffield United have registered 36 goals in 26 league appearances during the 2024/25 campaign thus far, with 13 of them being scored by strikers.

However, Tyrese Campbell is currently out with an injury and aside from Kieffer Moore, only two of those 13 goals have been scored by other options.

Southampton’s Ben Brereton-Diaz has been heavily linked with a loan move to the Championship side, but naturally he’s an adopted winger/forward rather than an out-and-out striker.

Therefore, an argument could certainly be made that Peterborough’s in-form man could be an ideal capture for the club and would reunite with former teammate Harrison Burrows.

Which club would suit the player best?

Jade-Jones has been a key part of Peterborough United’s first-team squad for numerous seasons now and the 2024/25 campaign is no different.

He’s contributed to nine goals in 24 league appearances this season for Posh despite their struggles at the wrong end of the League One standings.

Cardiff City are struggling at the wrong end of the table and are likely to be able to hand Jade-Jones more game time if they managed to get a deal done, although they could be in the same division as Peterborough next season.

Sheffield United on the other hand are pushing towards a Premier League return but that could see a reduced amount of minutes for Jade-Jones moving forward, although he’d be exposed to a higher quality of players.

Sheffield United fans, would you still like to see Jade-Jones join this month?
