Bolton Wanderers may miss out on target David Watson as interest in the Kilmarnock man heats up.
The Trotters submitted an early deadline day bid for the 20-year-old midfielder in the region of £500,000, which was promptly rejected by the Scottish Premiership strugglers.
Future Plans In Trouble
According to the Daily Record, any hopes of Bolton continuing their interest in Watson could be in ruins after Aberdeen offered the midfielder a pre-contract agreement.
The Scotland Under-21 international is currently heading into the final months of his contract at Rugby Park, with clubs able to offer him terms ahead of that deal expiring at the end of May.
The Pittodrie club have been trying to shed numbers in the middle of the pitch on deadline day, with Luton Town linked with a move for Leighton Clarkson prior to their move for Davy van der Berg.
Wanderers, meanwhile, have had to fend off interest in one of their midfield talents, with Barnsley and Bradford City both approaching Steven Schumacher’s side over a loan move for John McAtee.
Having emerged through the system at Kilmarnock, Watson has been a regular in recent years with 128 senior appearances to his name, having helped them to the Scottish Championship title in 2022.
Should Wanderers Make A Move?
With pre-contract agreements now on the cards, this is a brilliant chance for Bolton Wanderers to secure a promising talent for a cut-price deal.
Especially with the chance of promotion on the cards for the Trotters, Schumacher and his side can offer a very enticing prospect in David Watson a chance to move to England and potentially play in the Championship.
A fairly versatile player as well, Watson could be a brilliant option in both boxes and provide much-needed cover should a player like John McAtee and Josh Sheehan make a move elsewhere, as they were tipped to do this window.
Whether they can beat Aberdeen to an agreement remains to be seen, with the Dons likely to hold an advantage of being near-certain which division they will play in next season.
