Birmingham City could be set to miss out on one of their summer transfer targets, as an ambitious Championship club target a swap move.

The Blues have been active in the transfer window this summer, having picked up several high-profile additions, including the likes of Alfie May, Marc Leonard and Willum Willumson amongst others. It had been reported early in the window that they had a transfer budget in the region of £20million as they look to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

However, according to reports they could be set to miss out on a player linked to the club in June. Sunderland and Bristol City were suggested to be battling with the Blues for the signature of Scott Twine from Burnley with the latter now in negotiations with the Clarets over an ambitious swap deal.

A swap deal for Twine?

According to Bristol Live, Bristol City are locked in negotiations over a move that would see Scott Twine and Luke McNally head to Ashton Gate in exchange for Tommy Conway. Bristol City had already responded to Middlesbrough regarding a potential deal for Conway, with the makeup of a £5million bid being a stumbling block.

Liam Manning is reportedly an admirer of Twine, with the player having already spent a period on loan at the Robins. He appeared 10 times, scoring twice with a return understood to be a priority for the Championship club.

Is this a loss for Birmingham City?

Unlikely, this link was some time ago and it appears as though the League One side have moved on. Despite not being exactly the same the addition of Marc Leonard will go a long way towards filling the gap that Twine would have filled. with the budget and the ambition the Blues are demonstrating, I doubt they will have lost much sleep in losing this battle.
