Luton Town‘s fleeting interest in Leighton Clarkson seems to have cooled following a new report.
It was believed earlier in the day that the Hatters had identified the Aberdeen midfielder as a key target on deadline day, and were interested in making a move for the 24-year-old.
Hatters Look Elsewhere
According to an updated report from the Press and Journal, a move for Clarkson from Luton Town looks unlikely due to a difference in valuations between them and Aberdeen.
Arriving from Liverpool in 2023 after a previous loan move from Anfield, the defensive midfielder has made over 150 appearances for the Dons in all competitions and has been a standout throughout his time at Pittodrie.
However, an exit for Clarkson could still emerge, with another, as yet unnamed English club still interested in making a move for the midfielder, who fell out of favour under previous manager Jimmy Thelin prior to his sacking.
For Luton, they have moved onwards with other targets, with Dutch midfielder Davy van der Berg ‘almost certain’ to arrive at Kenilworth Road according to Mike McGrath, while they have also been credited with interest in Barnsley captain Luca Connell, which has since been ruled out.
Jack Wilshere’s side have also seen a holdup in terms of an outgoing, with Sheffield Wednesday needing to sell players in order to facilitate a move for Marvelous Nakamba.
Alternative Targets Prevail
Leighton Clarkson’s future may still be in doubt, but it now seems certain it will not be at Luton Town with the Hatters moving on to other targets on Deadline Day.
The Aberdeen man has been a solid servant for the club and while his fortunes at Pittodrie have gone in the wrong direction as of late, his ability is very clear to see and is one of the strongest players in their squad across recent years.
Luton now set their sights elsewhere, with Davy van der Berg the frontrunner to join Kasey Palmer as a midfield signing for the Bedfordshire outfit before the window shuts.
Jack Wilshere has built a formidable squad despite heavy changes in and out of the club, and they will feel they can go on and secure a playoff place to try and bounce back into the Championship at the first time of asking.
