Walsall have had an outstanding start to their 2024/25 League Two campaign, but could things be effected in a negative way due to a decision by one of the clubs midfielders.
Mat Sadler’s side are currently ten points clear at the top of the League Two standings whilst also having a game in-hand, with the club having been unbeaten in all league matches since the 1st of October.
However, according to a report via Football League World, Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis has turned down a new contract with the football club following heavy interest from clubs in League One.
How has Jellis fared this season?
The 23-year-old joined Walsall from then-National League North side Tamworth last January but originally featured off the bench as a result of injuries and the form of Isaac Hutchinson.
However, this season Jellis has established himself as a key part of the Walsall squad in League Two.
He has made 21 league appearances for Walsall so far this season, scoring three goals and providing an additional assist. Jellis has also scored once in six cup matches for the Saddlers and has established an average match rating of 7.02.
Why will his decision “rock” Walsall?
Jellis has been an important player at the heart of the Walsall midfield during the first half of the 2024/25 campaign and has filled the void left by former playmaker Isaac Hutchinson.
His current contract at Walsall is set to expire at the end of the current season, although the League Two side do hold a one-year option in the players deal – meaning he is likely to be under contract until 2026.
However, Walsall have already turned down offers for the midfielder this month and now news that Jellis has turned down a fresh contract offer won’t be the news they’d have liked to hear.
The midfielder therefore has presented Walsall with a decision to make this month, especially with the Saddlers leading the way at the top of League Two.
