Walsall have taken League Two by storm so far this season and it is likely to attract a number of higher-ranked sides to try and prize their star assets away and for one player – he could be looking at a two tier rise in the coming weeks.

The Saddlers are currently second in League Two heading into this weekend’s FA Cup matches, with a game in-hand which would take them to the top of the table should they win that particular match.

Throughout the course of the 2024/25 season thus far, Walsall have welcomed the eye-catching displays of Stoke City duo Nathan Lowe and Tommy Simkin, whilst Connor Barrett has continued to excel despite stepping up to unfamiliar territory this season.

However, for one further player, he could be entering the final weeks of his career with Walsall should someone be able to secure his services in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Walsall’s Jellis linked with exit

As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis has peaked the interest of several EFL Championship and League One sides ahead of the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old joined the Saddlers from now-National League side Tamworth for an undisclosed fee in January 2024, but struggled to hold down a regular starting spot due to injuries and form of other players – but this season he has grabbed the opportunities with both hands and has taken the division by storm.

Jellis became a Saddlers hero in round one of this season’s FA Cup when he scored a 91st minute winner to knock out League One side Bolton Wanderers, setting up a round two fixture against Nathan Jones’ Charlton Athletic.

He has scored three goals in his previous five starts for the Saddlers and has established himself at the heart of their midfield alongside the likes of Ryan Stirk and Jack Earing.

Which clubs could be ideal destinations for Jellis?

With the midfielder having featured for Walsall and Tamworth, another Midlands side such as Derby County or Birmingham City could create an attractive proposition for Jellis but he is likely in-turn to see a decrease in first-team minutes.

Similarly, League One is full of ‘project’ clubs such as Peterborough United and Lincoln City who have proven track records when it comes to recruiting players from League Two and establishing them as ‘big names’.

Of course, a move outside of the Midlands is just as likely as one within the area, but the impressive nature of Jellis’ performances are likely to cause a welcomed headache for Walsall over the coming weeks.
