League Two Walsall have had a bid accepted for Tamworth midfielder Jamie Jellis, as revealed by Pete O’Rourke via Twitter.
It was revealed last month by Callum of Look Sports Media that the midfielder was attracting interest from clubs in League Two. One of the sides credited with an interest was last year’s National League playoff winners, Notts County. It was also revealed that National League side Barnet had already been rejected in a bid for the 23-year-old.
Having joined from Kings Langley last summer, Jellis was instrumental in last season’s promotion success they enjoyed. His form has continued going into the National League North with the club. The midfielder has been plying his trade in the non-league scene since being released by Stevenage in 2020. However, a handful of loan spells during his time with the EFL club also saw him playing non-league football.
Tamworth are currently top of the National League North, eight points ahead of Scunthorpe United. Jellis has been key once again with some consistent form that has seen him miss only a solitary game in the league. In 27 appearances, the midfielder has contributed toward five goals, scoring four and assisting once. Not just that, there have been just four games where the 23-year-old has not competed for a full 90 minutes. That one game missed was through suspension, with the midfielder picking up eight yellow cards this season.
The midfielder is out of contract with the National League North side, and it appears that he has found a new home in the EFL if this news is anything to go by.

Jellis is a case of a player who is too good for where he is at right now. Being out of contract this summer, it is a smart move for the National League North side to sell this month. With clubs in the leagues above monitoring him, it would have been hard for the side to convince him to pen a new deal.
