West Bromwich Albion Man Target for League One Club

West Bromwich Albion defender Caleb Taylor is being tipped with a loan move before the close of the window this evening, and League One club Wycombe Wanderers are leading the race to sign the defender on loan.

The 21-year-old would be headed out on loan from the Championship outfit for a third time, having spent time with Cheltenham Town and Bolton Wanderers in temporary switches. Both loan spells came in the third tier, which could make him an experienced signing in defence at a young age for any club pursuing his signature.

Wycombe Wanderers head up the chase for West Bromwich Albion man.

The Chairboys will not be satisfied with their start to the season, having picked up three points from their opening three games. This past weekend’s fixture with Rotherham United saw the side pick up their first win after defeats to promotion contenders Wrexham and Birmingham City.

Since their relegation from the Championship, they have been consistent in the third division, finishing in the top half in all three of their seasons and achieving a playoff place once. Their consistency has shown potential in the side to push towards a promotion campaign which they have once succeeded in doing, but recruitment in the transfer market could be key to that goal.

Lewis Cox reports via X that the League One outfit are leading the race to complete the signing of the West Bromwich Albion defender on loan before the close of the window.

Taylor would be an impressive signing for Wycombe Wanderers.

Taylor has been on the rise for some time now and displays a significant amount of potential, having risen through the Baggies academy and featuring at various youth levels for the Midlands-based club. After his debut against Arsenal in 2021, Taylor has gone on to make 10 further appearances for the Baggies, who have the defender tied down to a contract until June 2028.

The defender needs game time to continue his development, which has been impressive to date, but given the start to the season that Carlos Corberan’s side has enjoyed, breaking into the Championship side’s squad does not appear to be on the cards for the 21-year-old.

A third loan spell in League One could prove to be a decent step if he is given regular minutes. After being a favourite at Cheltenham Town, making almost 50 appearances for the Robins and scoring twice, his loan switch to Bolton was not as successful, when he only featured seven times for Ian Evatt’s side.
