Lincoln City have chopped and changed at the top end of the pitch this season, lining up several different strike partnerships already.

Head coach Michael Skubala has been hampered by injuries, and a concussion to the otherwise ever-present Ben House, and has altered his attacking duo continually.

However, the Imps boss says he knows his best front two.

He was quizzed about his striking options in the run-up to the weekend’s victory over Stockport County, giving somewhat of a cryptic answer. He said: “I know who the best two are, but they’re not always available for selection at the moment.

“That doesn’t mean the others can’t have an effect, and that doesn’t mean they can’t get into that too. They have to score goals and be more threatening in front of goal for me.”

So, who are those best two?

Lincoln City’s Attacking Options:

Both Ben House and Sheffield Wednesday loanee Bailey Cadamarteri scored in Saturday’s win over Stockport, as Lincoln City secured a much-needed return to winning ways.

The pair have each netted four times this season, across all competitions. That is two clear of the other main attacking options, Jovon Makama and Freddie Draper. The Lincoln City academy products have a duo of goals each, while injuries have seen the former miss a number of games.

Summer signing Rob Street is yet to get his Imps account up and running, while himself being dogged by niggles and knocks. Tyler Walker also remains out, as he picked up another injury in Lincoln’s warm-weather training camp in Spain.

Who Are the Best Options?

I would stick by House and Cadamarteri, personally. Not only because they have proved the more fruitful in front of goal, but because they provide a dynamic, varied and intense threat.

Their off the ball work, especially that of House, is near unrivalled in SkyBet League One. And, the England under-20s international Cadamarteri adds pace and energy up top. He fills the big shoes of Joe Taylor, after the Luton Town man’s special Lincoln City loan stint over the back-half of last season.

However, it appears Jovon Makama is the favoured option alongside House. Reading between the lines of Michael Skubala words, it indicates that the absent Makama is one of his two principle attackers.

The former Leeds United under-21s chief said his best two attackers are not available at the moment, pointing towards the currently sidelined youngster.

That being said, regardless of who the best two are, the entire unit will be needed in the coming weeks and months. As the fixtures come thick and fast in the winter months, strength in depth is critical.
