Wigan Athletic have become the latest EFL side to be linked with a move for a hotly contested forward, but face plenty of competition.

Shaun Maloney’s side have recently lost defender Charlie Hughes to Hull City for a seven-figure fee, which although has left a gap in defence, could leave the League One side with an increased budget for the remainder of the window.

The player in question was playing Non-League football as recently as January 2024 but now looks destined for a six-figure switch to the EFL, before the window closes in two weeks.

Wigan chase Sidibeh

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Wigan Athletic have become the latest EFL side to monitor St. Johnstone forward Adama Sidibeh ahead of a potential move to the football club.

However, Wigan have been joined by multiple Championship sides including Norwich City, QPR and Swansea City ahead of a potential £500,000 switch back to England.

How did he fare last season?

Sidibeh started the 2023/24 campaign with Non-League side Warrington Rylands after an unsuccessful stint with League One side Stevenage previously.

After an eye-catching six months, Sidibeh was snapped up by SPFL side St. Johnstone, but despite the rise in quality – he more than played his part.

During his short stint so far, he has made 14 starts in Scotland and scored nine goals, which has quickly alerted the interest of several potential buyers.

Is a deal likely?

Currently, Sidibeh has a £500,000 price tag on his shoulders, which could put off potential suiters due to his short amount of high-quality first-team experience.

Unlike the Championship clubs, Wigan Athletic have potentially a higher chance of offering the forward more first-team minutes this season but it is also a high risk for the League One side.

However, the sheer number of clubs interested would suggest that there is a possibility of Sidibeh leaving the SPFL side before the window closes in two weeks.
