Winner Revealed in Race for Bradford City’s Jake Young

The transfer saga surrounding Bradford City’s Jake Young has been ongoing for several weeks with numerous clubs having been reported to be winning the race at several points.

Fleetwood Town were winning the race according to reports with Graham Alexander confirming that the club had accepted a bid from a League Two club. However, a conflicting report emerged stating that Championship clubs including Derby County were chasing the player alongside Carlisle United and the eventual winners of the race.

One club that has remained interested throughout the process from an early stage is League One Stevenage who have been attempting to recreate the dynamic duo of Dan Kemp and Jake Young that performed so well in League Two for Swindon Town last season.

Now, according to Pete O’Rourke the race has been won by Alex Revell’s side.

Young and Kemp were both on loan at Swindon Town in the opening half of the 23/24 season under then manager Michael Flynn. Kemp scored 16 goals and contributed eight assists in 27 games whilst Young also scored 16 and contributed four assists in what was an electric attack which, especially in the early stages of the season was unplayable.

Neither player was able to replicate their form when they were split up and returned to their parent clubs and Stevenage will be hoping the reunion could spark another push towards the League One play-offs.

Revell’s side have had a mixed start to the season, winning one, drawing one and losing one of their opening three league games, but do sit find themselves sitting 10 places above former manager Steve Evans at Rotherham United. Jordan Roberts signed a contract extension today and they have also got the talents of Tyreece Simpson up top who offers something completely different to Young’s style of play.

Now it is a race against time to complete the necessary paperwork and medical before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
