Woking Sign Midfield Prospect

National League side Woking FC have announced the signing of midfielder Jamie Andrews from Championship club West Bromwich Albion, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder joins The Cardinals following the expiration of his contract with his boyhood club.

Upon confirmation of the signing, Woking manager Michael Doyle stated:

“Jamie’s a player I was aware of from West Brom, he played 30 games for Grimsby in League Two. When he became available, it took a long time to get him but we feel it’s worth the wait and it’s a coup with his age and profile”

Andrews’s Career So Far

Andrews’s career began in the midlands, playing in the youth ranks at West Brom, where he worked his way up from the u16 side to the first team, where he made a single appearance for The Baggies in 2023.

But his first taste for senior football came in the 2021/22 season, where he spent a month in the National League South with Leamington, making three appearances. Although he only appeared three times, his performances caught the eye of National League side Yeovil Town, where he made the move to The Glovers during the 2022/23 season in January.

He went on to make nine appearances in all competitions before being recalled by West Brom where he then made his senior debut for the club.

During the 23/24 season, Andrews took yet another step up, this time joining League Two side Grimsby Town on loan for the season, where he managed to make 37 appearances for the club, scoring once and assisting once too. Unfortunately this summer, Andrews was announced to be departing West Brom through the club’s released list, which leads to the present day and the midfielder being snapped up by Michael Doyle’s Woking.

Last Season By Numbers

During his spell at Grimsby, Andrews accumulated some impressive stats across the 37 games he played that suggests he could be a strong addition for Woking. He boasts a 71% pass accuracy, on top of a 51% dribble success, showing he can progress with the ball through a pass or by carrying it forward if needed.

He also put out some impressive defensive statistics, winning 1.6 tackles per game on top of 3.9 recoveries, showing his ability to read the game and hold position when out of possession.

Where Does Andrews Fit In At Woking?

The addition of Jamie Andrews seems to fill the boots of Jayden Luker, who spent time on loan last season and played a significant role in Woking’s upturn in form.

Andrews’s ability to play forward and join in the attack is something that is crucially needed in the side, and I feel he will be played in one of the midfield three in the 3-5-2 formation Doyle opts to play. A player who has seemingly come n high regard on social media from his previous clubs, and looks to be a strong addition to the side.
