League One duo Stevenage and Reading are embroiled in a transfer battle to secure the signing of in-demand 22-year-old winger Chem Campbell from Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.Â
The player will be no stranger to Royals fans, after spending the season on loan with the club during the 2024/25 campaign. But their attempts to bring him back to the club may be at risk due to interest from fellow League One side Stevenage.
Stevenage Winning Race Against Reading in Wolverhampton Wanderers Transfer Battle
The 22-year-old appeared 42 times last season for the Royals but did face criticism for some of his performances from sections of the fanbase. However, with the club now free to do business in the summer transfer window thanks to the sale of the club to Rob Couhig’s group they can look to make the deal permanent.
Chem Campbell has also previously spent time on loan with Wycombe Wanderers (twice) and Charlton Athletic before linking up with Reading last summer. But according to FLW, a move to Stevenage is looking more likely as they “move ahead” in the race to sign him.
Wolves still hold the power, with the player having a year left on his contract and the option to extend it by a further year, meaning any move is likely to require a fee or some sort of financial package.
Reading Back At The Table
After years of uncertainty, embargoes and unpaid wages Reading are back at the table with their fellow clubs. Whilst they may not have the financial might of teams such as Birmingham they are on the right track to start competing again.
Rob Couhig is reportedly looking to secure additional investment to bring more money into the club in what will be a welcome relief to fans who had feared they may lose the club altogether.
