Dexter Lembikisa will return to Wolves in January when his current Lincoln City loan spell finishes.
The Imps’ director of football, Jez George, confirmed that the right back will not have his loan spell extended, after a low-key stint at Sincil Bank.
Speaking to the Stacey West Podcast, he said the 22-year-old’s spell was originally until January, and confirmed there were no plans for him to remain at the League One promotion contenders.
“Dexter was just a loan to the first of January. So that will end after we play Huddersfield,” he said, with Huddersfield Town the Imps’ opponents on the opening day of 2026.
Lembikisa, a Jamaican international, joined Lincoln on deadline day after a trial with Championship outfit Charlton Athletic. It was always a big ask for him to get regular minutes, given that he plays in the same position as club captain and 2024/25 Lincoln City Player of the Season, Tendayi Darikwa.
Chances remained at a premium, with the EFL Trophy twice clashing with his World Cup duties, ruling him out of all but one of the group stage matches.
He did make two League One appearances, as the Imps lost matches against Leyton Orient and Rotherham. Given that they have only lost five league matches all season, and all of Lembikisa’s outings came in defeats, the omens didn’t look good.
Tough Time For Lembikisa
It’s been a tough few months for the youngster, who also featured heavily as Jamaica sought to make their first World Cup finals since 1998. A disappointing draw with Trinidad and Tobago, followed by another with Curacao, has seen them slip into the inter-confederation play-offs, where they have to beat New Caledonia and DR Congo to secure their place at the finals.
Should they win that, Lembikisa could finish the season facing Portugal, Uzbekistan and Colombia at the World Cup.
What next for Lembikisa?
Lincoln City fans didn’t see enough of the player to form a solid judgement, with an outing against Manchester United Under-21s not a fair indication of potential
Based on his Imps’ spell, a loan into the Championship is unlikely, unless perhaps struggling Sheffield Wednesday were looking for a deal.
Instead, he’s likely to be back in League One, eagerly craving football that could see him enter the World Cup in the summer. Who could give him that? Perhaps a struggling side, such as Port Vale, also close to his Birmingham home, but with Kyle John there, and them playing a flat 4-4-2, he might not be a solid fit.
Options are limited. Exeter City play the right sort of formation, Northampton Town have chopped and changed right wing back, but it’s a big move. If he’s to secure a place in the Reggae Boyz side, and help get them past DR Congo, he’ll need regular matches.
