Sheffield Wednesday striker Michael Smith could soon find his way out of the club shortly after a contract extension was activated which will see him enter the final year of his deal next season. Wrexham, MK Dons and Blackpool are all showing interest.
Smith has been with the club for three years, making 127 appearances and scoring 32 goals in the process. He has previously been on the books of Portsmouth, Swindon Town, Rotherham United, Charlton Athletic, Colchester United, Northampton Town, Bury and Barnsley amongst others in a long and successful career.
But now he could soon find himself leaving Hillsborough with several clubs interested.
Wrexham, MK Dons and Blackpool Amongst Clubs Interested in Sheffield Wednesday Man
Wrexham are long-term admirers of Smith, having tracked him for a number of transfer windows but ultimately failed in their attempts to sign him. That interest remains according to The Star who suggest that Phil Parkinson’s side could try again to bring him to Wales.
Blackpool are also linked with the ambitious League One side attempting to transform their team under former Premier League boss Steve Bruce into potential promotion contenders.
They have been linked to Josh Koroma today but look likely to miss out as Leyton Orient near a deal for the player.
David Downes, the man in charge of recruitment with the Seasiders was part of the side that signed Smith for Wednesday before making his move to the coast.
The final side linked is that of former Owls boss Paul Warne’s MK Dons who have been willing to splash the cash this summer in an attempt to return to League One in the former Rotherham United boss’ first full season in charge.
Smith has 210 appearances under Warne with 60 goals and 22 assists whilst at the Millers and it is perhaps less surprising to see him enter the race than it first appears on paper with the club sitting towards the foot of the EFL.
