Wrexham’s strong summer transfer window shows no sign of stopping, with the club entering talks to sign a Wales international.
The Red Dragons’ strong transfer business hasn’t yet converted to points on the field. Phil Parkinson’s side picked up their first point at home to Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend – although they’ll likely feel they should have had more after a disappointing collapse in the second half.
With not long left in the window to improve their side, Wrexham have been linked with another impressive signing.
Jordan James to Wrexham?
Anthony Joseph has confirmed on his X that the Red Dragons have entered talks with French side Rennes over a deal for Jordan James.
The Welsh international is seen as the prime target to improve their central midfield position. However, Andy Irving and Will Smallbone are both being targeted by Wrexham, with a bid for the latter already put in.
James Adjusting to Life in France
Last summer, James departed Birmingham City for Rennes. In his first season in Ligue 1, he played 23 times, starting 14 games, and averaging 52 minutes per game. He finished the season with an average Sofascore rating of 6.9.
The Welsh international chipped in with one assist over the season, ending with a low expected assist score of 1.68. He also created three big chances and registered 1.1 key passes per game.
In Wales’ World Cup Qualifiers this year, James has impressed. He’s started two of his four appearances, receiving an average rating of 7.1.
How Does Wrexham’s Transfer Window Compare to Other Teams?
Wrexham haven’t been scared to make big moves this summer. Alongside smart free transfers for Josh Windass and Danny Ward, they’ve spent their money on some eye-catching signings, such as Nathan Broadhead, Callum Doyle, and Conor Coady.
So far this summer, they’ve spent £23.65m on new players, which is the 29th biggest net spend this summer – ahead of the likes of Inter Milan. It’s some turnaround for a club that spent so many years stuck in the National League before the Hollywood takeover.
With over a week left in the window, that spend could easily increase as Wrexham look to improve their squad after a questionable start to the Championship.
