After three successive promotions, Wrexham are embarking on their first season back in the EFL Championship. The Red Dragons’ ruthless approach is set to continue, with a former star player closing in on a move back to League Two.
Wrexham have endured a poor start to life in the second tier. One draw and two losses mean Phil Parkinson’s side are winless and sit outside the relegation spots on goal difference. However, they are through to the third round of the Carabao Cup after knocking out fellow Championship sides Hull City and Preston North End.
Wrexham Man Close To League Two Move
According to Pete O’Rourke, Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer, is set for a move to Swindon Town. The League Two side are desperate to sign a striker before next week’s deadline, after star man Harry Smith suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
Palmer will be making a permanent move to Swindon after expressing a desire to be closer to his family in London. A medical is due in the coming hours, with the deal set to be announced in the next 24 hours.
This will be a huge signing for Swindon as they aim to improve on their solid start. Three wins and two losses have Ian Holloway’s men outside the play-offs on goal difference and two points off the automatic spots.
How Did Palmer Fare Last Season?
In 27 League One appearances, Palmer managed just three goals and two assists. The majority of his appearances came from the substitute bench.
In the 2023/2024 season, the striker played 39 times in League Two, scoring seven and assisting a further three.
A move back to League Two with Swindon means Palmer can get much-needed minutes under his belt and become a star player, a role he thrived in during Wrexham’s record-breaking National League promotion in 2022/2023.
Is This A Good Move For All Parties?
For Palmer, this is a great move. As previously mentioned, Palmer will be utilised as a star striker. After showcasing his aerial dominance in the Carabao Cup tie with Hull, Swindon fans should be licking their lips at this signing.
For Swindon, this is also a great move. After the injury to Harry Smith, Town couldn’t have replaced him better. Palmer will bring all the key traits that come with being a target man to Swindon. Aerial domination, hold up play and a fox in the box mentality. Palmer will be just what Holloway needs to help Swindon gain promotion to League One this season.
