Wrexham Open Door To Midfield Transfer

Wrexham AFC

Championship newboys Wrexham have opened the door for midfielder George Evans to leave the football club on deadline day.

The Welsh side have already strengthen in midfield this summer, whilst Coventry City’s Ben Sheaf looks set to join the club after undergoing a medical and agreeing a three-year contract.

This arrival is likely to be the key that allows Evans to complete either a loan or permanent transfer away from the Championship side for the 2025/26 campaign.

Evans discusses Wrexham exit

As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Wrexham midfielder George Evans is in talks ahead of a possible move to League One side Burton Albion before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

The experienced midfielder is said to be in talks regarding a move, though there has been no confirmation as to whether this would be a loan move or a permanent one.

Evans is under contract at Wrexham until June 2026, though the Welsh side also hold a one-year option in their favour which could be triggered if he impresses in League One.

How did he fare last season?

The 30-year-old was a bit part player for Wrexham in League One last season, after initially being a key role in the campaign prior following his switch from Millwall.

Across all competitions, Evans featured 11 times for the Welsh side and picked up an assist during a narrow victory against Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy.

This season, Evans has already featured twice for Wrexham, with both appearances coming in the EFL Cup matches against Hull City and Preston North End.

Good addition for the Brewers?

Burton Albion have raided Wrexham several times in recent seasons, but the addition of an experienced midfielder in George Evans could be the pick of the bunch.

He brings plenty of Championship experience to the football club, adds leadership back into the midfield and improves their options and depth in the process.

It’s more than likely that this will be a loan deal due to his contract situation at Wrexham, but it could be a key signing for the Brewers during the first half of the campaign at least.
